Researching Dystopia

My research into the realms of digital identity and surveillance art have led me to the world(s) of dystopia. The ideas of digital big brother, the creation and monitoring of our physical identities through dataveillance and data-mining algorithms have led my work towards an installation idea. My idea takes cues from such projects as tracenoizer and the works of Heath Bunting.

Further research into my negotiated project has concentrated on examining the digital identity and the ideas of (digital) surveillance in forming who we are and what people know. As well as research, I have produced some technical projects to demonstrate my ideas.

The Real World?

Noticed this had some bearing on my research for the negotiated project. Project Entropia is a multiplayer cyber-space based environment where people buy and sell items for real money - virtual Ebay, without the postage. One guy spent £13,700 on a virtual island. The world gone mad, or the beginnings of societal expansion into the digital domain?
